Small Business Saturday in Gorham

Support Local Business While You Shop For Your Loved Ones

Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 by American Express and is celebrated the Saturday after Thanksgiving, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year it falls on November 27, 2021. The purpose of the day is to showcase the small businesses that are the backbone of the American economy and that support local communities across the country. I am a firm believer of shopping where you live and buying local. This holiday season, instead of rushing around shopping at crowded malls, dealing with long lines and retail shortages, shop at your local small shops. Recently, I spent some time shopping in Gorham Village and found some fun presents for my clients and friends. Below are just a few of the businesses in Gorham. Please be sure to stop on by and check out all the other shops. And don’t forget the restaurants, their gift cards make great stocking stuffers.

Hops & Vine

Owned and operated by the Albert Family, this shop offers more than just alcoholic beverages. They showcase a variety of local artisans and their crafts. I am a fan of the custom wooden wine stoppers made right here in Gorham, Maine. They are gorgeous and would make a lovely present paired with a good bottle of wine.

Carter's Green Market

Owner Holly Carter takes great pride in offering a variety of quality products and foods, including homemade fresh items from local food vendors and Grab N’Go meals made on site. Be sure to preorder your Thanksgiving pies sourced from Two Fat Cats Bakery. The shop is filling up with holiday gifts galore. I found some adorable State of Maine wooden ornaments celebrating Maine’s Bicentennial, perfect for client presents.

Sullivan House Bakery & Cafe

Recently opened, the Sullivan House Bakery has quickly acquired a following. Owner Nancy Ames has decorated the shop in a mix of eclectic furnishings, artworks, and decor, making for a cozy place to hang out for fresh and oh-so delicious pastries and cups of coffee. I wouldn’t mind receiving a gift certificate for here from Santa. How can you go wrong with a gift of triple chocolate brownies?

Bier Cellar

Bier Cellar Gorham is located in Gorham, Maine. Owner Greg Norton is proud to share that their first store, Bier Cellar Portland, was named one of the top 50 beer stores in the country by Men's Journal. They are a beer and wine store specializing in craft/artisanal beer and wine. I am super excited to taste the Pinot Noir wine that they helped me pick out. It’s my treat to share for my Friendsgiving.

Erin Flett

Erin Flett is a textile designer. I have been a fan for years of Erin’s colorful and cheery graphics and loved her pillow and bag designs. I am now enjoying her expansion into wallpaper and apparel. Erin has been featured in countless magazines and was the 100K award winner of Green Light Maine 2020. I always enjoy spotting one of her designs when I am out showing a property. I’ll look at it and remark “That’s Erin’s!”
