Sidecar

Wine, Whiskey, Tapas, and Rooftop Views

Just an elevator ride up to the fourth floor at Station Square and then a left through the glass doors, you will find Gorham’s new place for intimate dining, drinks, and music - Sidecar Wine, Whiskey, and Tapas Bar. The bar is decorated with a mixture of cozy seating arrangements such as comfy couches, stylish chairs, and small tables, along with more traditional private booths and high tops. Owner, Ben Smith gives credit to his significant other, Amy Pompeo, for the fun yet classy vibe of the interior consisting of the cow print lounge chairs and natural wood coffee tables. It’s a welcoming venue for adults who want to relax, share a drink, and taste small plates or tapas with friends. Live music by local talent plays in the background Wednesday through Saturday, 6-9 pm adding to the ambiance.

My favorite bar feature is the upstairs lounge area with a wraparound outdoor deck overlooking the center of town with a 360-degree view, Gorham’s own “Top of the East”. It is the perfect place for small group gatherings, drinks for two, business meetings with colleagues, or even a solitary sojourn to admire the sunset. And in warmer months, guests can enjoy drinks on the balcony. Because Ben wanted to provide more than just a whiskey bar, Sidecar also hosts small gatherings such as showers and birthday events. It goes without saying that their signature drink is called the Sidecar, although my various friends have been partial to their martinis and all about their bourbon. As for me, I have enjoyed the best Malbec I have ever tasted, a Biutiful from Argentina with notes of black fruit, plum, and blackberry. Whatever the occasion or whichever signature cocktails you enjoy, Sidecar offers an adult friendly, casual, but intimate bit of Portland nightlife without leaving Gorham.
