Buck Luck The Bin Store

Are You Feeling Lucky? ☘️

How fitting for the month of March with St. Patrick’s Day and everything being about the Luck of the Irish, to visit a store called Buck Luck that has a shamrock in its name. How lucky indeed. Recently celebrating its one year anniversary, Buck Luck - The Bin Store is the first bin store of its kind in Maine. The retail sales concept is very straightforward with what they sell, how they sell, and their prices. All the merchandise is the same price, regardless of what the item is, from high end electronics, clothing, tools, decor, toys, and pots and pans. That price decreases gradually beginning Friday at $7 (the starting price) and continuing until the following Thursday for all remaining merchandise left in the bins at only $1 dollar. As the name implies, the bulk of the retail products are displayed in large bins with clothing items placed on hangers and breakables on shelving units. Some of the merchandise is presented in boxes with labels indicating the product inside, but not clearly visible. And some boxes may only have a barcode. You are asked not to open boxes; however, the store clerk will gladly open a box upon request. You can also scan the barcodes on the box with your Amazon App to reveal the contents. Not for the faint of heart, it is a hunt for treasure to dive deep into the bins to see what you might find, not to mention to deal with the throngs of customers that show up on $1 dollar day Thursdays.

There is no fancy marketing, but their funny and energetic videos on their facebook page are worth viewing. My favorite is the dancing dinosaur. There are no neon signs screaming sales, no mannequins wearing trendy clothing, and no Muzak playing in the background. It is a bare-bones mini warehouse with daily opportunities to discover something great at a good deal. So do you feel lucky? Try your luck at Buck Luck.

Gurley Antiques Gallery

It was a pleasure to have found Gurley Antiques Gallery on Route 1 in Scarborough. It is a quality, multi-dealer shop with both quality antiques and fun and funky vintage finds. I found a bakelite bracelet, and brought home a collection of orange pool balls. My favorite items were the eclectic oddities that some might even call macabre.

Bite Into Maine

You would expect to find an award winning restaurant in Portland’s Old Port, the foodie capital of all things delicious, or at one of the tourist-favorite diners found along the coast… But you wouldn’t think to find a national award winning restaurant at a mini strip mall off Route 1 in Scarborough. For the best iconic Maine dinner of Lobster Rolls, chowder, and whoopie pies, “ayuh”, you can’t get any more Maine than that.
