Broadway Gardens

Flowers, and Grasses, and Planters, Oh My!

What better way to spend an afternoon than by visiting a local garden center? I’m getting ready to plant my garden, and when I purchase my seedlings, whether it be veggies or flowers, I want healthy plants and always buy local. I recently spent time and $$$ at the South Portland Broadway Gardens (there's also one in Westbrook). Helping gardeners grow since 1950, Broadway Gardens offers hundreds of plants, potting soil, pottery, and miscellaneous garden essentials.

As I strolled through the numerous greenhouses, I was captivated by both the colorful array of blooms and their sweet fragrance. There was a slight damp chillness in the air, but inside the greenhouses the air was warm and balmy. If only I could bottle up this fragrance and feeling for when the cold temps return next winter.

I realize that so many are still working from home, but I just had to ponder why the parking lot was full with such a steady stream of cars on a Wednesday afternoon. I soon got my answer when I saw an advertisement for their “Mature Gardener’s Discount", a 10% discount every Tuesday and Wednesday for those over 60. Guess I visited on the right day. Time to Plant!
