How to Cook Lobster

About This Recipe

Hard to believe that as a girl born and raised in Maine my whole life, my first taste of lobster wasn’t until college. I had certainly seen lobsters before then but had not tasted this sweet seafood treat. My parents would have lobsters once or twice a summer when good friends came to visit. Adults had the lobster, us kids got hotdogs. It wasn’t until I was 19 and dating someone that would become my husband that I first tried lobster. On our third date, he cooked a sumptuous and romantic meal for the two of us. Unsure of what I would like, he played his cards right and brought both steak and lobster. Surf and turf on a college student’s budget was extravagant and sealed the deal for future dates and wedding bells. It was love at first sight …. For the lobster.

You can’t live in Maine and not love lobster, actually it is pronounced Lob-stah. But that’s just my opinion. According to the state’s Department of Marine Resources, 96 million pounds of lobster were caught and sold in 2020, so others must agree with me. The cold Atlantic waters, home to the lobsters, keeps them from absorbing the salt from the ocean as well as keeping the meat sweet and tender.

There are so many ways to cook a lobster. Rather than add one of my recipes, I thought I would simply share this link to everything you need to know about Lobsters but were afraid to ask. Whether served cold with mayo in a hotdog roll or hot with melted butter and splash of lemon, you will be ready to start cooking and enjoying your Maine Lob-stah.
