Thrift With Me

National Thrift Shop Day is celebrated on August 17. It is all about supporting local thrift shops and raising awareness for charitable organizations. For myself, every day is a thrift shop day. I am constantly making the rounds of my favorite places, like Goodwill, Community Thrift Shops, and Habitat for Humanity’s Re-Stores. Thrift stores are my favorite places to shop for my staging business. I love finding a Pottery Barn piece at a fraction of the cost that its original owner paid. My daughter, a millennial, loves to thrift because of its sustainability, affordability, and creativeness. We can purchase items at affordable prices while not compromising on the environment's health. One of thrifting's biggest advantages for the planet is that this recycling and reusing keeps items out of landfills and slows the need to make more new products. Plus by buying from charitable organizations, I am giving to the community. Below are some photos of some of my recent finds.

Did you know that Habitat for Humanity has a Re-Store for the general public that's full of furniture, building supplies, and recycled paint? There's one off Warren Ave in Portland.

This Recolor paint at the Re-Store is made from recycled paint which is good for the environment and your wallet.

This is the Freeport Community Thrift Shop. Great for all types of housewares, furniture, dishes, light fixtures, clothing etc.

I'm a sucker for small profile wooden chairs. They're perfect for staging!

This chair was comfortable and could be easily reupholstered with a new graphic design.

Here's a lovely collection of graphic coasters at the thrift store - a great pop of color.

The Freeport Community Thrift Store always has an ample stock of dishes and glassware that I can use for home or staging.

I love going down the aisle at Goodwill. I'm always looking for Jadeite glassware.

These pet bowls would be perfect for your four-legged friend.

Glasses are more than drinking receptacles. They can provide a rainbow pop of color.

I'm always looking for basic pieces in color and design.

I was drawn to the visual texture of this mug, and I've already got a vignette planned around it.

Love the texture and movement of this planter!

You can't go wrong with blue and white in any decorating style.

I got these trays to spray paint with a fresh coat of paint. These could be used in a multitude of ways.

We all have these signs in our homes, yet current design trends are showing that these may now be passé.

Books are great for reading, but I use them as a design element in my decorating. Don't forget that you can remove the jackets to color coordinate.

Did you know that you can give gift cards to thrift shops? Give the gift of thrifting; the gift that does good.

Sometimes you even find scary things like this clown. It would not have been in my daughter's nursery.

Sad to see once special family treasures now for sale to strangers. But the frame is really nice!

And then there are times that you find something that makes you smile. This is a Bob Ross Chia Pet. The seeds will grow to expand his afro.

Here's a combination of items - all from Goodwill - that I used in staging a nursery. The hat was originally blue and tan, but I hand painted it black and white to match.

Staging in Portland

Recently I staged a Portland cape. I thought a nautical blue and white theme in the sunroom would look stunning.

Preparing to List

A day in my life as a Realtor is more than being on the road for showings and inspections. More often than not I have paint brush in hand, I’m covered in paint splatters, or I’m outside weeding, raking, and adding flowers to gardens or porches.
