2 Smaht Cookies

Just the other day, my friend Becky reached out to me and told me that she had a special treat. We made arrangements to meet and I was delighted to see that she had made me some cookies in the shapes of a house, a door, and a welcome mat. These were perfect for my line of work as a real estate agent in that they would make really cute and tasty gifts for my clients. That was the purpose for the visit and tasty samples to get both my feedback and hopefully my business for her new baking venture.

For months prior, I had been watching my friend on facebook showcasing tantalizing photos of cookie designs she was experimenting with for her new business. Each cookie was what we call “instagram worthy”. I was confident that the cookies would be as delectable as they were beautiful, having had the pleasure of tasting some of her culinary creations through a networking group in year’s past. And yes, they are delicious!

Rebecca Lilley and business partner, Carla Bradish, both shared a history of cake decorating experience and were looking for a new creative outlet. Rebecca’s family, the Knights, own and operate Smiling Hill Farm. She began by making personalized cookies to be sold at the Farm which included cows and Smiling Hill Farm branded milk bottles. Their original recipe is a delicious vanilla shortbread cookie with a hint of lemon extract and royal icing – a magical combination. Both have a passion for trying new techniques and ideas and decided it was time to make it a true business. The licensing, inspection, and startup process of becoming a new small business took about 6 months. The ladies collaborated on the name, “2 Smaht Cookies,” and Carla, with her graphic arts background, designed the logo. In January 2022, the business was ready to start baking.

2 Smaht Cookies is currently delivering cookies to Smiling Hill Farm each week and fulfilling custom special orders to celebrate a new baby, a bridal shower, branding small businesses, and Valentine’s Day, to mention just a few. The Benner Group is excited to be partnering with 2 Smaht Cookies in creating custom cookies for tasty client gifts. In addition to their signature vanilla shortbread, they also make chocolate shortbread, gingerbread, and gluten free cookies.
