If you're worried about the higher costs of heating and how that may impact you this winter, we've put together a short list of resources to check out.
Efficiency Maine's DIY Heating and Weatherization Tips
From simple things like adjusting your thermostat, scheduling a heating system cleaning, and user tips for heat pumps to more involved tasks like adding extra layers to your windows, applying caulk, and replacing weather stripping, Efficiency Maine has put together a list of DIY heating and weatherization tips.
Window Dressers
WindowDressers brings community volunteers of all economic and social situations together to improve the warmth and comfort of interior spaces, lower heating costs, and reduce carbon dioxide pollution by producing low-cost insulating window inserts that function as custom, interior-mounted storm windows. Their staff supplies, trains, and supports teams of community volunteers as they build affordable, insulating window inserts at local Community Builds. Unfortunately, most of the Maine community build dates have past as of mid November 2022, but perhaps the idea of making the window inserts will inspire you to make some on your own.
2022-2023 Winter Heating Season Tips and Resources
The Governor’s Energy Office has put together a guide to help Maine people save and stay warm this winter. The guide includes resources for Maine people from MaineHousing, Efficiency Maine, the Maine Public Utilities Commissions, the Maine Emergency Management Agency, the Office of the Public Advocate, and the Governor’s Energy Office.

Give Heating Help
Your support can help friends and neighbors stay safe and warm in their homes this winter. Keep ME Warm provides emergency heating assistance through a statewide partnership of Maine’s United Ways and Community Action Agencies. Donations are distributed through a formula based on federal Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) percentages and population, and are used to assist individuals directly, or designated to local organizations that provide emergency fuel assistance, including faith-based programs and nonprofit agencies. Keep ME Warm is the only statewide fuel assistance fundraising effort in the state of Maine.
