Blueberry Picking

Visit a Local Farm for Maine's Official State Fruit

One of my favorite story books as a child and for my daughter Elizabeth, was Blueberries for Sal by beloved Maine author, Robert McCloskey. Published in 1948 it tells the story of mother and daughter picking blueberries to put up for the winter. We are lucky to live in Maine where blueberries are plentiful and are harvested beginning in late July. And like Sal’s mom, I enjoy having bags of frozen blueberries in my freezer come the winter months. Throughout the state you can find farms open for pick your own blueberries.
