Networking with Sheehan's Seafood

She sells seashells by the seashore. We all know this common tongue twister, but for Amy Sheehan it could be a new twist with Sheehan sells seashells by the seashore. I recently met Amy Sheehan of Sheehan’s Seafood at a Freeport Chamber event. The event, hosted by Maine Distilleries, producers of Cold River Vodka, was a great networking opportunity and a chance to meet new contacts and make new friends. Meeting Amy was both. Along with getting to sample a number of fun drinks made with the distillery’s premium vodka, guests were served amazing fresh scallops surprisingly not from Casco Bay but Cobscook Bay up in Washington County provided by Sheehan’s Seafood. They were fresh, delicious, prepared with a little maple syrup glaze. 

Sheehan’s Seafood, owned and operated by Gulf of Maine, Inc, a company started by Tim and Amy Sheehan in 2000, is located in Pembroke, Maine. They bring fresh seafood to eastern Maine, Aroostook County, and more recently, to Cumberland County, specifically the Freeport area. Billed as a ‘seafood buyers club,’ the company buys from local fishermen/women, harvesters, and divers, and sells to restaurants, markets, and individuals interested in locally harvested fresh seafood. The Sheehans have been in business for 20 years and say that local sourcing provides customers with truly fresh seafood. They pride themselves on a very timely "boat/beach to table" model and pay close attention to the different regulated fishing schedules and the weather to ensure that the freshest and most sustainable seafood gets on to your plate! It is interesting to note that Gulf of Maine also offers scientific specimen supplies along with their growing seafood/shellfish business. They collect and sell freshly harvested marine life to labs, schools, supply houses, and directly to customers. 

While helping to run their seafood and marine science business, Amy has also been growing a Health & Wellness Life Coaching practice. Over the past few years, she has created healthy lifestyle groups in the community, as well as online, with great success. She is passionate about healthy living, lifestyle, and food. Our conversation was so much more than discussing the merits of locally sourced seafood. I was attracted to her infectious energy and discussion of all her pursuits. At the end of this day in my life, the scallops were tasty, the drinks were enjoyable, but the opportunity to start up a conversation and to make a new friend was truly a pleasure.
