DPQ BBQ

About This Recipe

Anyone that is familiar with me, knows that I was addicted to Diet Dr Pepper. That was my drink of choice to start my morning whether it was 70 degrees or below 30 and then continued to drink throughout the day. I have since quit cold turkey and have switched to healthier seltzer water. I still enjoy the flavor of Dr Pepper so was thrilled to find this recipe in a recent Hannaford Recipe posting. It isn’t unusual to find soda based sauces as colas have been commonly used in marinades and barbecue sauces. The sweetness of the soda helps to enhance the flavors of the sauce. You can reduce the calories of this sauce with diet soda, but it will change the flavor, so needless to say no DIET Dr Pepper will be used.

Use this flavorful sauce to marinate chicken and steak or brush it on meat or vegetables while grilling. It is also good to blend in with meatloaf or burger mixture. If marinating, use enough sauce to coat items completely and refrigerate in a baking dish or resealable bag, turning occasionally, for at least 4 hours and up to 1 day.

I recently used this sauce grilling with my friend Patti, a la griller extraordinaire. It was delicious. Now it’s your turn. Let’s get grilling.
