Summer Home Maintenance Checklist
Summer is Here - Time to Get Things Done
With no chance of snow to cover the ground or roof, summer in Maine is a great time to check off any items that may have made their way onto your home maintenance to-do list.
1. Power Wash Your Driveway and Sidewalks
Inspect and clean your sidewalks, deck, patio, and driveway
Use a pressure washer
Check for any cracks and weeds
Wash away the dirt, mold, and grime
Most local home improvement stores offer pressure washer rentals if you prefer not to buy one or hire this out
Reseal any wood if needed
2. Clean Out Gutters and Downspouts
Dig or vacuum out any accumulated debris
Readjust connections
Repair any leaking cracks
Make sure to divert any pooling away from your home's foundation
3. Wash Windows and Replace Window Screens
Remove screens and gently scrub them with hot, soapy water
If they are really dirty or have any holes, consider replacing instead
Clean your windows
4. Prevent Bug Breeding Grounds
Caulk around your windows and doors to help stop bugs and ants from entering
Make sure to dump any standing water that may have collected in flower pots, buckets, etc
5. Beautify Your Yard
Remove any dead parts from trees, bushes, and plants
Do some weeding
Trim the hedges
Lay fresh mulch in the flower beds to help keep weeds away and let plants retain moisture longer
Add new annuals or more perennials to your landscaping
6. Inspection for Loose or Rotted Siding
Readjust or replace as needed
7. Repair and Repaint and Chipped, Cracking, or Faded Exterior Paint
Not only will this help protect against the elements, it will make your home look nicer
8. Check the Foundation for Cracks
Repair as needed
9. Have AC Checked and Serviced
Regular maintenance helps extends your units' life
10. Clean the Dryer Vent and Exhaust Duct
Prevent house fires from clogged vents
Help you machine run more efficiently
