Lindsay's Kitchen

Stop By, Have a Bite, Drink a Coffee on the Porch

What better way to start a day of antiquing in a quaint historical village than having breakfast at the center of town at its namesake inn, The Cornish Inn, or more precisely, Lindsay’s at the Cornish Inn? The Inn dating back to 1838 offers 16 beautiful guest rooms with historical charm and modern amenities and partners with Lindsay’s for breakfast, brunch, and drinks for guests of the Inn. My friend and I were looking forward to a full day of shopping at the numerous retail shops lining Main street in Cornish village. Cornish is situated halfway between Portland and the White Mountains and is an antiques/collectibles mecca. We needed more than just a simple take out bagel to fortify ourselves for a full day of walking and treasure hunting. My friend was excited by the sandwich board that greeted us outside the restaurant that read “Pumpkin Spice … Enough said. Hot or cold.” She loves all things pumpkin. At Lindsay’s we were treated to fresh farm to table creative breakfasts that were filling and did not disappoint.

Lindsay’s operates as a first come - first served restaurant. No reservations. It was a beautiful autumn Saturday morning and the restaurant was filled with locals, guests of the Inn and folks like us looking to shop. The outside seating on the wrap around porch was filled as were the tables inside. We gladly found the few empty seats at the horseshoe shaped bar and joined a group of men that were having breakfast. Lindsay’s menu offers breakfast selections and after 11:00 am, more substantial fare brunch options. Each menu item was mouth watering and drool worthy artfully arranged ingredients.  It was hard to pick just one selection as everything on the menu was tempting but finally decided on the short stack of french toast topped with whipped butter, cinnamon and powdered sugar with a side order of bacon, the latter order was a very unexpectedly large side of 7 pieces of bacon. Needless to say, most of the bacon came home in a doggie bag to be used for other meals. My friend ordered the avocado toast with fruit and was pleasantly surprised at the generous portion she received, easily a dish that could have been shared.

Speaking of large portions, it was rather comical to see our fellow dining buddies at the bar react to the plate upon plate that was being placed before them. They had ordered numerous sides, worried that the main dishes wouldn’t have been enough for manly appetites. Boy were they surprised.

Maine Magazine ranks Lindsay’s as Maine’s Best Pancakes and they have earned a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor. With the colors changing, it’s a perfect time to take a fall foliage drive to the White Mountains and be sure to stop by Lindsay’s for a hot cider or pumpkin flavored drink. Open daily for breakfast 6am-11am and brunch from 11am-2pm.
