With over 20 years experience in the real estate industry, Sherrie has represented clients all over Maine in hundreds of real estate transactions. Previously an award winning agent with Keller Williams Realty, she is now a top producer with Berkshire Hathaway Northeast Real Estate.
After graduating from the University of Southern Maine, with degrees in both History and Art, Sherrie began her career in real estate in 1985 as a corporate/real estate paralegal working with a number of prominent Portland Law Firms. This work experience helped prepare her to become a professional real estate agent. As a paralegal she honed her research skills by analyzing public records, code and zoning ordinances with the main focus on property title abstracting. All skills that continue to be an educational foundation that helps guide her clients through real estate transactions.
A strong base of loyal and repeat clients is the reason Sherrie is so successful in this incredibly competitive sales environment. Whether Sherrie is listing a landmark estate or working with first time homebuyers, she is known for her quality service, creative thinking, passion for interior design, market knowledge and professionalism. She has built a career on repeat and referral business and earned the respect of satisfied past clients by always putting her client's needs first.
Longtime resident of Gorham, Sherrie is passionate about giving back to her community and is well connected and actively involved in many charities and social organizations including: Volunteer with the Independent Transportation Network (ITN) for Senior Citizens, 2 terms Gorham Town Council, Gorham Historical Preservation Committee, Gorham Historical Society, Patron of Lakes Region Senior Center, Girl Scout Leader and proud supporter of local Girl Scouts. A percentage of real estate commissions have been donated to ITN. She has served on various boards including USM Alumni, Chairman of Independent Transportation Network, ecomaine, and currently the Greater Portland Board of Realtors®. Outside of real estate, Sherrie is a freelance writer for several local newspapers.
Sherrie is a REALTOR® and affiliated with Women's Council of Realtors® WCR, Seniors Real Estate Specialist SRES, Greater Portland and Maine Boards of Realtors® GPBR and MAR, National Board of Realtors® NAR, Maine Multiple Listing Service MLS, Certified Relocation and Transition Specialist, CRTS, and serves as a Director of the GPBR.
Outside of work, Sherrie enjoys creating new recipes - especially using fresh produce from her garden and composing mixed media art. Happiest when sharing good food with family and friends.
Each transaction is a new and different journey. Sherrie feels blessed to be along for the ride.
Over the years Sherrie has enjoyed sharing photos of unique design trends as well as really “taste-specific” decor that grabs her attention, both of which she has come across while showing properties. Subject matter has ranged from things like the the anatomically correct 5 foot statue of the nude embracing couple in a dining room, the full wall hunter versus deer mural in a kid’s bedroom, and the single faucet she found placed in the middle of a living room wall (just a faucet with no sink). Additionally, for those that know her, it goes without saying that any orange decor seen in homes may make it to her weekly “Orange you glad it’s Friday?” posts. For example, the oversized orange sectional couch filling up a small room, leaving absolutely no room for any other piece of furniture.
In addition to photos, she's also got stories. Below are some playful insights into her daily life as a real estate agent that are featured on her blog, Realtor on The Go.
Both the Greater Portland Board of Realtors and the Maine Association of Realtors continue to hear about these scam situations involving fraudulent sellers that try to sell properties in Maine that they do not own. These scams are happening across the country, most commonly involving vacant land with non-local owners.
I understand that jury duty is my civic responsibility. If chosen, it will involve serving on a jury in a legal proceeding, listening to testimony, reviewing evidence, and making decisions in criminal and civil trials. Everyone deserves a fair trial by a jury of their peers. I would want that if I was in that position as a defendant.
I am proud to be recognized as being in the top 9% nationwide of all Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Agents. I am so appreciative of each and everyone of my amazing clients that chose me as their real estate expert and also grateful to my clients, family, and friends who have entrusted me with referrals of their family and friends.
I do live and breathe being a real estate agent, but contrary to what some might believe, it is not a 24/7 endeavor. A day-in-my-life also includes all the various community organizations I participate in like the Gorham Garden Club that I serve as President. Our recent meeting was a presentation/workshop on the preparation of Tussie Mussies.
Any sane person would have passed on this home – except Lindsay. Everything needed to be torn down and removed, like the Phoenix and its nest, returned to ashes for rebirth. Although this property was clearly a tear down, it also offered 50 feet of water frontage on Sandy Pond … coveted waterfront property.
The BHHS Convention is more than an opportunity to experience warmer weather, it is a much needed time to energize, revitalize, and invigorate my real estate business. New Orleans is world renowned for its distinctive music, vibrant nightlife, Creole and Cajun food, and my favorite, its colonial architecture.
You may have recently seen articles in the news relating to the real estate industry, not just in Maine but nationwide. There has been a great deal of information and misinformation about possible changes to the commission structure used by real estate agents and their respective clients. Simply stated, it is a change that will impact our day-to-day business practices and the best way we speak to our clients, both selling and buying sides about commissions going forward.
Whether you call them garage sales, yard sales, or tag sales, having a sale is a fun way to clean house, get rid of clutter, and has the bonus of earning you extra cash. I’ve been spending the summer cleaning out my basement, closets, and cupboards and boxing up unused, unwanted and outgrown items for the sale.
My 45th high school reunion was held this year in August. How can it be that it was decades ago that I graduated from Gardiner Area High School? Earlier high school reunions have been fun, each one being memorable by reconnecting with old friends and more importantly making new friends with classmates not earlier known.
In honor of June 14th, Flag Day, I wanted to share a few of my past listings that have flown the American Flag. I have always loved flying the American Flag, a tradition that began back in 1986 when I purchased my first home. Now as a REALTOR, I use the American flag to set my homes for sale apart.
A study published in "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin," found that women who described their living spaces as cluttered or full of unfinished projects were more likely to be fatigued and depressed than women who described their homes as restful and restorative. This year, I made the decision it was time to take back my home starting with my basement.
The program’s agenda was to showcase the benefits of investing in energy efficiency, identifying opportunities for energy efficient upgrades, and most importantly to me, how I, as a real estate professional, could add value for my client relationships by sharing this information and being their expert on Efficiency Maine rebates.
This is the time of year that I find seasonal decor items at the local thrift stores and Christmas themed jewelry at church fairs - serving platters, complete dish sets, tree ornaments, and a host of other decorations for your table centerpiece or mantle. Since the prices are so inexpensive, I can use the pieces this year for a specific design trend and then donate them when the season ends. It’s recycling at its best.
