Being a Real Estate Agent Is Not All Work and No Play

Over the years Sherrie has enjoyed sharing photos of unique design trends as well as really “taste-specific” decor that grabs her attention, both of which she has come across while showing properties. Subject matter has ranged from things like the the anatomically correct 5 foot statue of the nude embracing couple in a dining room, the full wall hunter versus deer mural in a kid’s bedroom, and the single faucet she found placed in the middle of a living room wall (just a faucet with no sink). Additionally, for those that know her, it goes without saying that any orange decor seen in homes may make it to her weekly “Orange you glad it’s Friday? posts. For example,  the oversized orange sectional couch filling up a small room, leaving absolutely no room for any other piece of furniture.

In addition to photos, she's also got stories. Below are some playful insights into her daily life as a real estate agent that are featured on her blog, Realtor on The Go.

Total Solar Eclipse

Most fortuitously, the day dawned with clear-cloudless-bright-blue skies and my adventure began. It was a rare moment of our moon being in perfect alignment with the sun for a total solar eclipse.

New Orleans Convention

The BHHS Convention is more than an opportunity to experience warmer weather, it is a much needed time to energize, revitalize, and invigorate my real estate business. New Orleans is world renowned for its distinctive music, vibrant nightlife, Creole and Cajun food, and my favorite, its colonial architecture.

2023 Award

I‘m proud to be recognized as being in the top 10% nationwide of all Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Agents. I am so appreciative of each and everyone of my amazing clients and also grateful to my clients, family, and friends who have referred their peeps to me.

Store Before You Sell

If you are considering placing your home for sale, you might want to consider pre-packing and removing items to a storage facility located near you before listing. What you will gain in the sale price is well worth the storage fees.

'Tis the Season for Giving

The holiday season can be a stressful time for many. Please remember those less fortunate that need our help. Be willing to reach out and share your resources.

What's It's Like to Be a Realtor

You may have recently seen articles in the news relating to the real estate industry, not just in Maine but nationwide. There has been a great deal of information and misinformation about possible changes to the commission structure used by real estate agents and their respective clients. Simply stated, it is a change that will impact our day-to-day business practices and the best way we speak to our clients, both selling and buying sides about commissions going forward.

Creepy Doll

In vintage glory and with no rhyme or reason for her placement, a 3 foot tall “walking doll" from yesteryear was propped up against a mirror...

Yard Sales

Whether you call them garage sales, yard sales, or tag sales, having a sale is a fun way to clean house, get rid of clutter, and has the bonus of earning you extra cash. I’ve been spending the summer cleaning out my basement, closets, and cupboards and boxing up unused, unwanted and outgrown items for the sale.

45th High School Reunion

My 45th high school reunion was held this year in August. How can it be that it was decades ago that I graduated from Gardiner Area High School? Earlier high school reunions have been fun, each one being memorable by reconnecting with old friends and more importantly making new friends with classmates not earlier known.

Vacant Land Scams

Both the Greater Portland Board of Realtors and the Maine Association of Realtors continue to hear about these scam situations involving fraudulent sellers that try to sell properties in Maine that they do not own. These scams are happening across the country, most commonly involving vacant land with non-local owners.

American Flags

In honor of June 14th, Flag Day, I wanted to share a few of my past listings that have flown the American Flag. I have always loved flying the American Flag, a tradition that began back in 1986 when I purchased my first home. Now as a REALTOR, I use the American flag to set my homes for sale apart.

Clearing the Clutter

A study published in "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin," found that women who described their living spaces as cluttered or full of unfinished projects were more likely to be fatigued and depressed than women who described their homes as restful and restorative. This year, I made the decision it was time to take back my home starting with my basement.

Continuing Education - Efficiency Maine Rebates

The program’s agenda was to showcase the benefits of investing in energy efficiency, identifying opportunities for energy efficient upgrades, and most importantly to me, how I, as a real estate professional, could add value for my client relationships by sharing this information and being their expert on Efficiency Maine rebates.

Networking with Sheehan's Seafood

She sells seashells by the seashore. We all know this common tongue twister, but for Amy Sheehan it could be a new twist with Sheehan sells seashells by the seashore.

President's Circle

I am proud to be recognized as being in the top 6% nationwide of all Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Agents. I am so appreciative for each and everyone of my wonderful clients that allowed me to be their trusted real estate advisor.

Vision Board

Your vision board can include anything you'd like, from the big goals and dreams, to the little wish list type of stuff, intentions, and words for the year. These are your goals, dreams, and personal aspirations. Here's how to make one.

Budget Friendly Holiday Decor

This is the time of year that I find seasonal decor items at the local thrift stores and Christmas themed jewelry at church fairs - serving platters, complete dish sets, tree ornaments, and a host of other decorations for your table centerpiece or mantle. Since the prices are so inexpensive, I can use the pieces this year for a specific design trend and then donate them when the season ends. It’s recycling at its best.

Thank You Veterans

I am proud to have helped so many veterans over the years to find their new home and continue to assist veterans with their homeownership goals. I would like to introduce a few of my clients that proudly have served their country and take a moment to thank them.

Staging in Jefferson

For my recent listing of a farmhouse in Jefferson, my sellers went above and beyond in doing everything I suggested. The finished look was stunning and the room has received numerous compliments from visiting potential buyers.

Gratitude

I had an epiphany. It wasn’t about what I was thankful for each day that brought me joy, it was about the process of me letting others know how they may have made a difference in my life, that brought me true joy and happiness.

Thrift with Me

I love frequenting local thrift stores to add to and upgrade my inventory for staging, as well as for gift shopping, and decorating my own home.

Preparing to List

A day in my life as a Realtor is more than being on the road for showings and inspections. More often than not I have paint brush in hand, I’m covered in paint splatters, or I’m outside weeding, raking, and adding flowers to gardens or porches.

First Time Home Owners

For all the financial reasons why you should own your own home, it is the emotional reasons that are most important. HOME is more than a building, it is your personal sanctuary for family and friends, your future, and your freedom.

Pop o' Color

My favorite saying and my mantra. I am a firm believer that surrounding yourself with bright colors can create a mood, heighten your mindset, make you feel alive, and simply put, color can make you happy.

Kentucky Convention Trip

Since I was getting an award which granted my access to invitation-only mastermind classes, I attended the 2022 Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. The trip wasn’t all work and no play, though. We were in Kentucky, known for its bourbon and racing, and we enjoyed both.

Day INN the Life

I don’t usually get to follow the new owners of a property once it has been sold; however; six months after the closing the Royalsborough Inn, I was pleased to be invited by the new innkeepers to the official ribbon cutting ceremony and open house of The Bliss Farm Inn.

2 Smaht Cookies

Cookies in the shapes of a house, a door, and a welcome mat would make really cute and tasty gifts for my clients. If you’re looking for a locally made personalized gift for your friends, family, or clients, for any kind of celebration or even just because, please keep 2 Smaht Cookies in mind.

Staging in South Portland

With multiple offers, this home quickly went under contract. Yes, the little details in how your home looks makes all the difference in presentation and subsequent successful sale.

Black is the New Gray

The color black is a perennial favorite for designing - simply elegant and timeless. Here are a few of my design tips when using black in your designs.

Orange - Not Just for Pumpkins

Because being outdoors during hunting season is dangerous, I always carry my orange safety gear, for both myself and my clients.

Basement Toilets

Ever wonder why your older home may have a random toilet in the basement? I have seen quite a few in my showing travels.

Staging in Portland

Recently I staged a Portland cape. I thought a nautical blue and white theme in the sunroom would look stunning.

Staging in Augusta (Again!)

One of my recent listings in Augusta had been on the market for over 3 years with 3 different agents before I was given the opportunity to sell the home. We listed at a substantially higher price point and got it under contract in less than 6 days.

Celebrating Nurses & Moms

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with folks from all occupations and walks of life. This month, in honor of both Mother’s Day and Nurses Week, I would like to celebrate a few of them that I have had the good fortune to call clients and my friends…. All the Moms and Nurses.

Staging in Augusta

It was a pleasure to work with my seller in the sale of her 1866 cape located in in-town Augusta. It had good bones, great flooring, fresh paint, but just needed a “pop of color”, my mantra for any design.

Plethora of Parasols

The store is located near the Causeway on Rt 302 and was the perfect jumping off point for a day of showings. I would stop in, depending on the time of day, and grab either home cooked breakfast or lunch. The food is great but the decor is fantastic.

Bears in Maine

I have been surprised at the number of bears I’ve seen as I drive around Maine for showings and other real estate work.

Rainbow Driveway

Dramatic driveway, painstakingly painted with dots, swirls, circles, and squiggles in a color palette of 13 pigments...

Phone Booth

At one gas stop we found an actual pay phone still in use along with a list of free phone calls one could make...
