Color Me Mine

The Art of Having Fun

Recently, my daughter treated me to a wonderful mother daughter day at the Color Me Mine Paint Your Own Pottery Studios. Located at Thompson’s Point in Portland, the studio is part of a paint your own ceramics chain with a studio available for walk-ins, workshops, and parties.

The cost of your pottery adventure will be a studio fee of $8 per painter along with the cost of the pieces. Prices begin at $17 and up. Color Me Mine offers an amazing range of ceramic choices covering bowls, dishes, statues and platters to name just a few. Honestly, it took quite a while for us to pick our choice of ceramics, but in the end we each chose small trays to decorate. We also decided to rely on our own artistic talents, as they may be, rather than use one of their available painting templates. Maybe not “Michelangelo-worthy” but we had fun and that was all that mattered. It is now one of my treasured pieces and not just for my own artwork.

Plan on an hour and a half to two hours to complete your piece. The last step of this pottery adventure is leaving your ceramics at the studio to be later glazed and fired. The finished pieces will be available for pick up in 5 days.

I wanted to share our pottery adventure with you for a couple of reasons. First of all, I will be proudly using my tray for Charcuterie tidbits for my upcoming holiday entertaining. I mean, who doesn’t love a good charcuterie board? But even more important than the food was the gift of spending time with my daughter and being in the moment. For this Christmas season, instead of rushing around shopping, dealing with crowds, long lines, and retail shortages, why not consider the gift of time with the people you love? For long distance friends and family, what about painting up a few presents? Instead of that ubiquitous shirt and tie for Uncle Ralph, why not present him with a personalized hand painted chip and salsa bowl to complement his Sunday night football viewing? Need the presents shipped? The studio has you covered. Ask about their rates.

So for this holiday season, get together with a group of friends and a bottle of wine at Color Me Mine pottery studio. Oh, did I mention that the studio is BYOB? So feel free to bring beer, wine and snacks. Have fun. Create a new family heirloom along with creating new memories.
