If You're Anywhere in the Vicinity, The Aromas Draw You In

On a recent blustery day, my photographer and I were looking for a place to get warm and fed. We had just finished wrapping up a photo shoot for a new listing up in Brunswick, and since we were already in town, Shere Punjab was the restaurant that immediately came to mind. Located in the heart of Brunswick, family-owned Shere Punjab offers fine Indian cuisine and is a favorite spot of locals, especially the Bowdoin College community. As we walked inside, we were greeted by a tantalizing array of aromatic herbs and spices that warmly enveloped us. The restaurant has a modest decor and offers a friendly environment. The service there sets the standard for excellence with owners Prakash Gyawali and wife Rakshya as role models for their attentive staff. They have been chosen as Best Indian food in Maine, a rightly deserved accolade, along with many other won appreciation and awards. 

To take the chill away, I began my meal with a large cup of Masala Chai Tea made with milk and sugar followed by a hearty hot bowl of coconut soup with side order of Onion Kulcha, a leavened white bread topped with onions, Indian spices and cilantro. All were delicious and satisfying to the senses. My friend ordered a chicken curry dish with boneless chicken in a savory tomato, ginger, garlic, and herb sauce with a choice of spiceness. She chose 7 on a scale of 1-10. Our server brought us a courtesy order of Papadam Bread accompanied by a trio of dipping oils and spreads to round out our meal. I would have paid to bring home a pint of that red pepper-onion spread. It was deliciously addictive. 

Shere Punjab also provides vegan and gluten free meals. It is a relaxing and welcoming place for intimate dining for 2 or for a family night out. You won’t be disappointed. Namaste!
