It’s officially summer and time to wake up your gardens and refresh your curb appeal. It’s flower time! Sure, you could go to a big box store to purchase your daisies and dahlias if you want plants from out of state or even out of the country. Or you could find locally grown flowers and vegetables from Patten’s Farm located on County Road in Gorham. They offer a variety of hanging baskets, pre-made planters, annuals, perennials, flower and vegetable seedlings. A gift card is also always an option and makes for an ideal birthday or anniversary gift. I drive past their greenhouses almost daily and come the end of April, I am anxiously awaiting to see the words "Open for Business" go up on their reader board. Now that is the way to celebrate May Day.
Each of my visits to the greenhouses results in a packed car of seedling trays and hanging baskets. I simply can not say no to the kaleidoscope of colors, the vibrant purples, oranges, yellows, and reds. Not to mention that you can’t ignore the heady aroma of the flower’s perfume. Patten’s Farm is a 4th generation family farm since 1950. They know their plants. Why would you go anywhere else?
