Fat Boy Drive-In

50s Style in the 21st Century

Growing up in Gardiner, one of my fondest childhood memories was eating at the Hi-Hat Drive In restaurant located in Farmingdale. Car lights on for service, and your meal was brought out on a tray that clipped to your car window. The grilled cheese was always a personal favorite. I have been doing a lot of business up in the Gardiner-Augusta area but always seem to miss the times it is open. Fortunately, to get my nostalgic diner fix, I have been just as busy in the Brunswick area and make it a point to get to Fat Boy Drive In. They offer burgers, lobster rolls, onion rings and beer …. Oh my. Actually, I am not a beer drinker, but was pleased to see the offerings of wine by the glass for rose and both pinot grigio and noir. The beer selection runs from seltzer, ales, Bootleggers Kentucky Mule and Downeast Cider original blend.

As much as I enjoy a good glass of wine … make mine red, please, I’m on the work clock when I arrive for lunch and either heading to a showing, inspection or appraisal. So my favorite drink is the 20 oz Thick Western Frappe, coffee flavored. Those first full sips always cause an immediate and intense brain freeze. I know better, but it’s worth it. And can we take a moment to talk about those golden, crunchy, homemade onion rings? Delicious!

Established in 1955, Fat Boy Drive In is a local destination in the heart of Brunswick during its regular open season and a tourist mecca in peak summer months. I’ve got some new listings and staging jobs in Brunswick/Bath area. Looks like I have a summer of eating at Fat Boy’s. I’ve got my car lights on and am ready to order.
