Ramona's Sandwiches

Portland's Best Sandwich

Where to go for a quick sandwich?  My photographer and I recently had a photo shoot for my new listing. We were just over the city line in Falmouth and decided to venture to Washington Ave for a bite to eat, specifically along the ultra-hip inner Washington Avenue.  We were feeling adventurous. With numerous choices of places to dine, we decided to try Ramona’s Sandwiches. The place has gotten a lot of buzz since it opened last spring and especially after it was voted Best Sandwich for its Roast Pork Hoagie in Dine out Maine’s Best of 2020.

Located at the former Flying Fox Juice Bar at 98 Washington Avenue, it offers Philly-inspired sandwiches for lunch and breakfast. Owners Chad Conley (co-owner of Palace Diner) and Josh Sobel are no strangers to the food industry. The menu selections are abundantly full of meats and cheeses and the rolls are divine. It was a tough choice to choose between the Classic Italian Combo with mortadella (my favorite cold cut), hot capicola, sopressata, sharp provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, olive salad, and hoagie dressing (sandwich easily feeds 2) and the Junior Deal which is a jr. egg sandwich on a potato bun, cooper sharp, mayo and calabrian chili served with a hot coffee (available only weekdays 7-10 a.m. only).  In the end, they had me with the calabrian chili and potato bun.

The online ordering process was easy and efficient with a text message received when order was ready. Fast and delicious. Since I thought the food was so good, I wanted to share. One lucky winner from the “Pot of Gold” contest will be receiving a $25 gift certificate.  Enjoy trying a little bit of Philly right here in Portland, Maine and help support a local business, one bite of sandwich at a time.
